Carmen Espegel
Carmen Espegel es Catedrática de Proyectos Arquitectónicos de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, donde obtuvo su título en 1985. Becada por la Comunidad Europea en 1989, realizó el Master of Conservation of Historic Towns and Buildings en la Katholieke Universiteit de Leuven (Bélgica), en el Lemaire Centre for Conservation, donde presentó su tesis Study and restoration proposal for the Maison en bord de mer: E.1027 que obtuvo Magna Cum Laude. Es Doctor Arquitecto desde 1997 con la Tesis Proyecto E.1027 de Gray-Badovici: Drama de la Villa Moderna en el Mediterráneo que obtuvo el Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado.
Su trayectoria se apoya en tres áreas complementarias: académica, investigación y profesional. A nivel académico ha impartido docencia en Italia, Estados Unidos, Bélgica, Holanda, México, Brasil o Argentina. Ha escrito libros y numerosos artículos mostrando su pensamiento crítico, donde resaltan, Women Architects in the Modern Movement (2018), Collective Housing 1992-2015 Vol.II (2016), Vivienda Colectiva en España Siglo XX 1929-1992 Vol.I (2013), Eileen Gray: Objects and Furniture Design (2013), Aires Modernos, E.1027: Maison en bord de mer de Eileen Gray y Jean Badovici (2010) y Heroínas del espacio (2008).
Su orientación en la investigación se centra principalmente en el campo de la vivienda, de la mujer en la arquitectura y de la crítica arquitectónica. Dirige el Grupo de Investigación “Vivienda Colectiva”-GIVCO.
En el ámbito profesional, durante veinte años fue socia fundadora del estudio espegel-fisac arquitectos y en la actualidad dirige la firma espegel arquitectos, cuyas obras han sido reconocidas en diferentes ocasiones. Participa y gana numerosos concursos nacionales o internaciones donde destacan el Mercado de Chamartín, las Viviendas para Realojo en Embajadores 52, ambos en Madrid, el Parque del Salón de Isabel II en Palencia, la Remodelación del barrio Tiburtino III en Roma o el Centro Cultural y Ayuntamiento de Gumpoldskirchen en Austria. Su obra ha sido recogida en libros y revistas de prestigio como El Croquis, Arquitectura Viva, ON, Arquitectura, Pasajes, Arquitectos, Future y Oris, o en Exhibiciones como la Shanghai World Exposition (China), el Royal Institute of British Architects de Londres (RIBA) y la Gallery AEDES am Pfefferberg (Berlin).
Carmen Espegel is a Professor of Architectural Projects at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, where she obtained her degree in 1985. Granted by the European Community in 1989, she completed the Master of Conservation of Historic Towns and Buildings at the Katholieke Universiteit from Leuven (Belgium), at the Lemaire Center for Conservation, where he presented his thesis Study and restoration proposal for the Maison en bord de mer: E.1027, obtained by Magna Cum Laude. She has been a Doctor of Architecture since 1997 with the Thesis Project E.1027 by Gray-Badovici: Drama of the Modern Villa in the Mediterranean, which obtained the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize.
Three complementary areas support her career: academic, research, and professional. At an academic level, she has taught in Italy, the United States, Belgium, the Netherlands, Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina. She has written books and numerous articles showing her critical thinking, where they stand out, Women Architects in the Modern Movement (2018), Collective Housing 1992-2015 Vol. II (2016), Collective Housing in Spain 20th Century 1929-1992 Vol. I (2013), Eileen Gray: Objects and Furniture Design (2013), Aires Modernos, E.1027: Maison en bord de mer by Eileen Gray and Jean Badovici (2010) and Heroínas del Espacio (2008).
Her research orientation is mainly focused on the field of housing, women in architecture, and architectural criticism. She leads the Research Group «Collective Housing»-GIVCO.
In the professional field, for twenty years she was a founding partner of the espegel-fisac arquitectos studio and currently, she directs the espegel arquitectos firm, whose works have been recognized on different occasions. Participate and win numerous national or international competitions where stand out the Chamartín Market, the Housing for Relocation at Embajadores 52, both in Madrid, the Salón de Isabel II Park in Palencia, the Remodeling of the Tiburtino III neighborhood in Rome or the Cultural Center Gumpoldskirchen Town Hall in Austria. Prestigious books and magazines such as El Croquis, Arquitectura Viva, ON, Arquitectura, Pasajes, Arquitectos, Future and Oris, or in exhibitions such as the Shanghai World Exposition (China), the Royal Institute of British Architects in London (RIBA) and Gallery AEDES am Pfefferberg (Berlin) have collected her work.
